As promised, Here I leave some of my impressions of the experience of shopping in Paraguay. How to import and trade taxes are quite low, the products have very good prices, best until the Chinese.
However, If you count the costs of transportation and lodging, shopping in Paraguay end up leaving around the price of Ebay. In my case, I wanted a PlayStation 4 and my wife wanted a camera Canon Rebel T5.
The idea then is to fly to Foz do Iguaçu, stay in one of the many hotels in the city and then make the necessary purchases going from Van, Taxi or Bus to Paraguay.
To cheapen the cost of transportation, recommend search always for promotions on the websites of Gol, TAM and blue. Many times there are opportunities with round trip to Foz do Iguacu for about 300 to 400 real. Then you start worthwhile!
Once in Foz do Iguacu, recommend hosting at Ibis. A good cheap hotel, with optional breakfast and you can book directly on the internet. If it is in advance is much cheaper!
Now just get transportation to go to Paraguay. For this you can use a Taxi service in front of the hotel. The taxi driver mark with you the schedule for the return and you local search combined.
However, I'd rather take the Van. In front of the hotel there is a very nice store Loumar Turismo that leads to Paraguay for only 50 real. They still guide the visitors if you have any questions or any problem that may appear.
Loumar Turismo's Van, as well as a Taxi, will cross the friendship bridge and leave us at the Mall Del Este. A secure place for electronic shopping, clothes and perfumes. Here it is also safe to make a snack and exchange their reais for dollars.
One important thing in Paraguay is exchanging real dollars in currency exchange. If you already know how much the product you want to buy, then buy dollars at the Mall Del This same. The shops accept real as form of payment, but the quote is usually worse than on currency exchange. To check the price of the products you can use the price comparison system ComprasParaguai.
Don't let to buy anything using your credit or debit card, all in Paraguay has increased 5 to 10%.
The Mall Del Este is a good starting point, but it is certainly not the cheapest place. To buy electronics, as my case, the best store is Mega Electronics. It is easy to find, is on the same street of Mall Del Este, about of 5 minutes walking. Any Shopping information service can inform you. The store is very large and has a sign visible from afar.
You may find better price than the Mega, but I do not recommend be transiting to search, unless you know what you're doing. The Paraguay is still a dangerous place and problematic. Buy what you want on Electronic and return to the Mega Mall Del Este. Will be safer that way. And do not accept help from strangers!
After you purchased the product, You must pass the customs of Brazil for the settlement of taxes. Purchases until 300 dollars per person are exempt from taxes, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't pass the Customs to record what you bought. Be careful with that! A lot of attention! Even if you pass straight through customs and enter the Brazil without being supervised, in Foz do Iguaçu airport the revenue tax can confiscate goods which have not been declared or are not invoice!
This is a tip: If you get here from Brazil any camera or notebook, don't forget to take your receipt. On the airport tax revenue may ask to see these documents and even confiscate your notebook purchased here in Brazil!
In the Brazil Customs you must fill out a ticket called DBA. In this billet you declare the value of the goods purchased in Paraguay and the total value. Pass case 300 U.S. dollars, You must pay 50% the surplus. In the case of PlayStation 4, that cost me 450 U.S. dollars, I had to pay 75 tax dollars. Here's a novelty: the Brazilian Customs has a system of tax payments with debit card. Very easy and practical. Before we had to pay the Bank of Brazil!
Take the Paraguayan Customs invoices to prove the value of the product. Even so, Customs can arbitrate other value and charge a lower price or greater. But it's worth a try.
With taxes paid, the product is regulated so no one could complain. I thought it was worth it: the PS4 costs more than 2000 real here in Brazil and I left for about 1300.
In the Grand total, including ticket and lodgings, shopping in Paraguay are not cheaper than in Brazil. Even so, I think it's worth even more for the tour. Enjoy your trip to visit the falls, the Itaipu power plant, the Argentina (including the free shop and Casino) and other points of interest.
